Gift Bags

Giftbag Overview

This tool box will offer guidance on compiling 6 different gift bags to be used at your local abortion clinic: Undecided, Father of the Baby, Post-Abortion, Community Resources, Clinic Workers, and Escorts. These can easily be used within pregnancy centers, adoption agencies, or by individuals as well. Some material can be printed using a personal printer, some should be ordered through a professional printer, while others need to be purchased from a retailer.

It may seem a little overwhelming at first looking at all the different components, but once you get all the supplies ordered and put together a master copy of each gift bag; it is really easy to get into a routine when it is time to make more. Hosting a gift bag making party every few months is a perfect opportunity to involve volunteers who want to help your organization. Another option is to designate a few volunteers to be in charge of making a set amount of gift bags each month, or every couple of months. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be involved but doesn't want to be on the front lines. If you are flying solo right now- that's okay! That is how many groups start. Do what you can, and watch it grow!

Allow your sidewalk counselors to familiarize themselves with the contents of each bag so that they can reference them in their conversations. You can give each volunteer their own copy of the Before You Decide magazine and allow them to highlight it so that they can easily reference certain pages when they are having a conversation. We find that the materials work very well together, however you are not required to use every material we recommend. If you only want to use certain things, that is okay. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions!

Making Your Gift Bags

Below you will find the recommended materials for each kind of gift bag. The links will redirect you to the websites where you can purchase the items so you don't have to pay another middleman! Due to the à  la carte nature of this guide, you are able to order the materials that you feel will best serve your specific target audience as well as incorporate local resources you may want to share with them.

A note on the poly mailers- make sure you select the correct size for each gift bag when ordering. Also, explore all the other fun prints out there on Etsy! They have so many esthetically pleasing options!

We have found it helpful to have a plastic folder for each sidewalk counselor so that they can keep a couple of each gift bag with them at all times without having to balance them all!

You will need to consider how many of each gift bag you plan to give out each month so that you can order the appropriate number of supplies. It doesn’t hurt to make 50 + bags the first month and adjust as you become more familiar with the dynamic and specific needs at your local abortion clinic. If your abortion clinic is less accessible, consider approaching cars as they pull into the parking lot offering a smile and the universal “roll down your window” signal. If they stop for you, you can quickly offer them a gift bag and invitation to come chat. Pro-Love Nation does not offer legal advise, so please be sure to check with your local police department to make sure you know where you can legally stand.

Undecided

Who it’s For: Give this bag to women who are at the clinic for a pregnancy test, who are undecided, abortion-minded, or who have just taken the first dose of the abortion pill. You can give this directly to the woman or ask a friend or family member to give it to her if they are more willing to talk with you.

This is a useful bag to give to women who have taken the first abortion pill because if she starts having second thoughts she may still have time to contact the Abortion Pill Reversal Hotline in order to receive treatment that could save her baby.

Connect with a local life-affirming pregnancy clinic, adoption agency, or other helpful agencies and ask them if they can give you some informational cards to put inside of the gift bags.

We like to put the love letters in their respective envelopes and tie them up really pretty with twine!

Another idea is to put a $5 gift card, or voucher for a free drink at a local coffee shop, in each bag. When you give it to someone you can let them know there is a gift card inside. Encourage them to treat themselves to a drink while looking over the contents of the gift bag.

We tend to avoid baby gifts like pacifiers or baby booties until after she has chosen life. While well intended, these types of gifts often upset women facing a pregnancy decision. We do our best to keep the focus on her so that she feels safe connecting with us for hope and help- for her and her baby.
